Putting Products to The Test: Rocky Mountain Edition

With summer in full-swing that means there’s plenty of new opportunities for adventure. I had the chance to embark on a hiking trip in the Rocky Mountains. The trip included five incredible hikes in the Rockies and surrounding regions, totaling just over 70km and 4800m of elevation gain (not an easy feat to say the least!). The scenic views were breathtaking and felt so fortunate to explore such an incredible area in our very own backyard. I came prepared with all the equipment needed to conquer the trails, some old and some new. I thought I would review some of the products from Orthoquest to help other hikers and trail fanatics take off on their journeys!

Oboz Sapphire Mid B Dry: This incredibly light hiker was the key to my success throughout the trip. Not only do they have a very stylish look (and come in purple!), they are supportive and provide a flexible build when on the trails. The traction rendered its form and truly could take on any kind of terrain, all while keeping me dry when things got a little wet and muddy. A comfortable glove-like fit and mid-height to help support my ankles during climbs and descents. My only complaint was that I wish I broke these in sooner to avoid a little blistering, a significant break-in period is needed, so be cautious before heading out backpacking or on extensive day hikes. Overall, those who love the outdoors should definitely check the Sapphire Mid BDry out.

Darn-Tough Hike/Trek Treeline Micro Socks: It’s safe to say that these socks are pretty “darn” amazing! These socks are cute, comfortable and cozy, they help to offer cushion along the bottom of the foot and throughout the ankle for both comfort and protection. They were the perfect height as they peeked just right over my hiking boots. Made with a Merino Wool blend this helped to moisture-wick, allow for fast-drying, and breathability all throughout the long days. And with a lifetime guarantee on socks?… It’s hard to find something to complain about. I encourage everyone to check out the Darn-Tough collection, it’s surely something to brag about.

Bauerfeind MalleoTrain S Ankle Brace: Although I’ve had this product to help support my ankle for a while, it was definitely needed on this excursion. This brace is lightweight and manufactured with medical grade compression to aid with general circulation, swelling, and fatigue. The stretchy knit material is breathable and moisture-wicking, and fits comfortably into any shoe, which is a huge bonus when it comes to hiking boots. It has an individually wrapped system that helped to support my ankle while I was on the move and I felt comfortable at any point on the trail, which was important when it came to some unpredictable terrain. My only advice with this brace is to not pull the wrap too tightly, as it can be uncomfortable when running, hiking, or taking part in any sports. It is such a great product and I would recommend it for anyone who needs additional ankle support.

There’s still lots of summer left to enjoy, get planning those trips, hikes, and weekend excursions. Come and visit Orthoquest for all your footwear, socks, and bracing needs! Always here to help you Move Well, Be Well.
